How To Setup a Proxy Server Using Hamachi and Free Proxy

Do you feel insecure when browsing the Internet over an open unsecured wireless access point? Well some people do,  including myself . In this guide I will explain how you can create your own Proxy Server using  Hamachi and Free Proxy for safe and secured web browsing

What Is A Proxy Server?
A proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server evaluates the request according to its filtering rules

For Example:

A > B > C

Computer A requests webpage from computer B. Computer B makes the request to Computer C on behalf of computer A, then forwards the request back to computer A. Computer C has no knowledge of computer A.

By encrypting the connection between computer A and B, it is impossible for anyone on the local area network to monitor the traffic and thus computer A achieves anonymous browsing.

Why Use One ?
Open Wi-Fi Connections:
It is possible for anyone to monitor everything you do on an Open Wi-Fi Network. Not all sites that you visit may use HTTPS Encryption. Sometimes even sites that do use HTTPS only do so for certain actions and then revert to regular unencrypted HTTP connections, which are visible by anyone on the network. Using a proxy server will direct all web traffic through a secure and encrypted tunnel making all of your browsing safe and unseeable.

Firewalls and Corporate Web Filtering:
Users who wish to bypass web monitoring and restrictions imposed by their employer may utilize Proxy Servers. This is great for users and dangerous for IT Professionals as it may pose a danger to network security.

How To Setup A Proxy Server Using Hamachi And Free Proxy
Things you Need
  1. Two computers with internet connection .One to be used as the proxy server and other one to connect it for safe and secure  browsing
  2. Hamachi: A free (for non-commercial use), cross-platform VPN service that, gives you secure access to your home network no matter where you are.
  3. Free proxy A free, easy to set up web proxy with advanced privacy features

Step 1:- Installing Hamachi

The first thing you'll want to do is install Hamachi on the computer that's going to act as your proxy server and on the computers you want to browse securely on when you're on a public network. For example, I've got Hamachi installed on my Windows desktop computer at home (which will act as my secure proxy), then also installed on my Laptop

Once you’ve installed and powered on Hamachi  the first time you launch it, you need to click to blue power button to Power on, you’ll need to create a new private network. To do so, click the Network menu, then select Create a new network. Give your network a unique ID and password (remember the password), then click Create. That’s all there is to setting up your new network.

Next, download and install Hamachi on your laptop or other machine. Again, power on Hamachi, but this time, instead of creating a new network, select Network > Join an existing network, and then enter the Network ID and password you set up on the first machine.

You can rinse and repeat this on every machine you want to do this with, for up to 16 clients that’s the limit for Hamachi’s free-for-non-commercial-use version. Now that you’re set up with Hamachi, it’s time to install Free Proxy on your  home machine

Step 2 :- Install and Setup Free Proxy

Free Proxy is a free, open source web proxy that we’re going to install to your always on home machine. So download and install Free Proxy on your system After you’ve installed Free Proxy ,launch the application.

Now it’s time to configure Free Proxy to shuttle traffic through your Hamachi setup, so launch Free Proxy App and  Click on Proxies tab ,  a new Options window will open . Now enter port no as --- >8080, then select Protocal as ---> Http Proxy, Local  Binding as ----- >Hamachi network Interface and finally Click done, Now select  start /stop tab and click on Start button

Step 3: Set Up Your Web Browser to Use Your New Secure Proxy

Now you just need to set your browser to use the secure Hamachi proxy  you’ve set up so far. This last step varies by browser, but I’ll walk through setting it up on FireFox.

Open your Firefox , Then select Tools ----> Options , then click on the Advanced tab. Click the Network tab, then the Settings button next to “Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet”. Click Manual proxy configuration, then enter the IP address of your Hamachi-powered proxy server and 8080 as your port. (In my case, for example, I’d right click “Windows” in Hamachi and copy the address for the Windows computer.) finally Click OK.

And that’s all there is to it. This may sound a touch geeky or complicated, but it’s an extremely useful thing to have set up, and it’s actually really easy to set up and use. And remember, even though your proxy is running over an HTTP connection,  Hamachi is encrypting everything that runs between your computers, so it's still a secure option

@Manuel

Hi john, I wonder if there is a way or program to connect to the Internet wireless, say, a neighbor. I've heard stories with air - crack even with backtrack, but they are from Lynux and I use Windows 7 on my laptop. There will be ways or programs for Windows? I have heard also histories with Cain and Abel installing AirPcap of CACE Technologies, I hope you can answer. Thank you and we're reading
