An Introduction To MetaData

What is Metadata?
Information about the file or Data about the Data is called Metadata. For example File Creation Date, Author Name are Metadata.

Purpose of Metadata:-
  • Means of creation of the data.
  • Purpose of the data.
  • Time and date of creation.
  • Creator or author of data.


Image MetaData:-
Picture metadata is used to convey additional information about the picture, the scene, the camera, the people in the picture, or other related data.There are Some Standards used in Digital cameras to store metadata in Image.These common Standards are following:-


1.EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format)
2.IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council)
3.XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform)

Mostly Digital cameras use the EXIF Standard to store Metadata .For example Nokia Handset use EXIF Format to store Meta data. EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is the most commonly used type of metadata. EXIF is a standard controlled by the Japan Electronics and Information Technologies Industries Association (JEITA). Exif is a variation of JPEG.

Viewing and Editing Metadata:-

You cannot edit the metadata of Image File directly.You need a Software.There are many GUI(Graphical User Interface) and CLI(Command Line Interface) software Present.
I Suggest  to you use Photome Metadata Software.You can use Freeware photome Metadata Viewer and editor sotware.(Only 2.9MB)
